| Who We Are: Launched in October 2006, the Moontown Foundation (Moontown) is a non-profit social venture committed to developing innovative programs designed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, accelerate the adoption of metropolitan-scale energy conservation, energy production and energy management solutions that also serve as green career pathways out of poverty for economically challenged and socially disconnected teens and young adults. Moontown’s personal development and professional training programs help teens and young adults acquire green trade and technical skills, as well as gain professional and business skills required to successfully participate in the emerging green economy. Moontown is currently working with Green For All, Efficiency First, Home Performance Washington, Northwest Energy Council, and the Seattle Chamber of Commerce Urban Enterprise Center to develop substantive green public policy legislation, workforce development and economic development opportunities to help accelerate the transformation to a green economy. To date, over 300 teens and young adults have participated in our programs. Moontown has supplied over 5,000 Seattle area households with over 10,000 compact fluorescent light bulbs, several hundred low flow shower heads, window caulking, door weather stripping and other energy saving materials, delivering an estimated 400,000 thousand kilowatt hours of residential energy savings. Graduates of our programs are now employed at organizations such as EcoFab, Energy Services, Inc., Got Green, LiUNA, Seattle Public Utilities, and the Veteran’s Conservation Corps. Please note: Our office is located on the Eastside, but 100% of our efforts are conducted within the city limits of the Seattle Metropolitan Area. | ||
